Hello Somebody Podcast

Motion Graphics

Challenge

Hello Somebody was a podcast hosted by Nina Turner in which she discussed current social and political events through her unique perspective. To introduce a new season of the Hello Somebody podcast, the client wanted a refresh of existing branding. The client wanted to keep the same color palette and use of the glasses motif, but requested new type treatment and a more modular design for the promotional graphics.

Solution

The bright palette was used in gentle gradients to soften the overal appearance of the graphics. A more feminine type family was chosen, and Nina Turner's iconic glasses were redrawn to match the receding thin lines of the type. A glow motif was introduced to unify these elements with the waveform used in the episode preview graphics. Additionally, alternative designs were created to highlight special episodes of the podcast.

Redesign Within a System

Previous LogoThe initial logo for the podcast was playful, but generic.

New LogoThe client did not want to change the existing branding system for the podcast (aside from the typography). The redesigned logo simplified the glasses motif. I also used a high-contrast serif to give it a little more style. While most legible at larger scales, it adds some sense of sophistication to bolder, brighter imagery.
